During a recent appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, vice presidential candidate JD Vance earned praise for how he handled what many saw as hostility from anchor Dana Bash. After being interrupted multiple times while trying to answer a question, Vance decided to confront the situation head-on.
“Dana, would you like to ask me questions and then let me answer them? Or would you prefer to debate me on these topics?” Vance said, highlighting what he viewed as a clear difference in how Bash had treated other guests like Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. “I noticed that when you interviewed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, you gave them multiple-choice answers and allowed them to respond,” he added.
Vance further requested that Bash stop interrupting him, asking for the opportunity to provide full answers. “I’m happy to discuss policy, but if you’re going to interrupt every time I speak, why am I even here? Please ask your question, and I’d appreciate it if you would be polite enough to let me answer,” he stated.
Following the exchange, social media erupted with praise for Vance’s poised response to Bash. Conservative activist Benny Johnson tweeted, “JD Vance ENDS Dana Bash’s Career LIVE on CNN.” Another user from Grumblings Media commented, “This is how you expose the mainstream media. Trump’s style is blunt and can be mocked, but Vance gets his point across calmly and without question.”
Supporters admired Vance’s ability to call out perceived media bias in a measured, deliberate manner. One user wrote, “This is how someone should respond—not with theatrics, but by calmly pointing out obvious bias.” Another added, “@JDVance, thank you for calling out the bias and unfair treatment by @DanaBashCNN and the mainstream media. Journalism like this will be irrelevant in five years; younger generations are too savvy for this kind of manipulation.”
Others echoed similar sentiments. “JD Vance is pushing back against leftist mainstream media with respect and class, and calling out Democrat-biased journalists. His response to Dana Bash is a masterclass in media interviews,” another user said. “Republicans should take note—this is how they should engage with the media.”
One commenter criticized CNN’s perceived bias, stating, “CNN isn’t a serious news network. Lies go uncorrected, and truth is optional. That they weren’t sued over Russiagate tells you everything.” Another added, “This is why I don’t watch mainstream media. They need to ask questions and let the person answer without interruption. Thank you, JD, for finally saying something.”
